About the Health Department
Creation
The Macomb County Health Department was created by action of the Board of Supervisors in 1947, and has been committed to carrying out its mission ever since.
Our Vision
Healthy people in healthy communities.
Our Mission
In partnership with the communities we serve, our Mission is to protect and promote the health and well-being of all those who live, work and play in Macomb County.
Scope
The Health Department accomplishes its mission by providing a wide range of programs and services through four major divisions: The Environmental Health Services Division, which includes restaurant inspection, community health and safety, shelter, waste, and water quality management; the Family Health Services Division, which includes immunization, family planning, and other family and maternal/child health programs; the Community Health Planning and Promotion Disease Division Control Division which includes health education, nutrition, and community-based chronic disease prevention, hearing and vision screening, Children's Special Health Care Services and WIC, and our Disease Control Division which is responsible for disease surveillance and control programs. The Health Department also oversees the Medical Examiner's Office and provides health-related data and statistics, and maintains an Emergency Preparedness capability which cuts across all internal divisions.
