Lead in Our Community
Lead is a metal that can be found naturally in the earth. It is found in many materials, including batteries, cosmetics, water pipes, faucets and paint used in homes built before 1978. Lead can be harmful to a person’s health. It is best to avoid any exposure.
The Macomb County Health Department is assisting the City of Eastpointe following notification from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) that samples from the Eastpointe's municipal water system have lead levels in the drinking water exceeding revised state standards.
For more information, including details on water filter distribution in the community and testing, visit the City of Eastpointe's website or read their Public Advisory here.
For health related questions, contact the Macomb County Health Department Public Health Nursing program at (586) 469-5520.
