Campgrounds
Michigan law requires a campground license when five (5) or more recreational units are placed on a property and are used for temporary living quarters. This applies to sites that operate year-round (permanent campground) or for a temporary amount of time (temporary campground).
The Macomb County Health Department conducts inspections and licensing of all such sites.
A proposal to construct a permanent campground must have extensive plan review and approval by the Health Department prior to construction being started. For more information on constructing and licensing a permanent campground, contact the Environmental Health Services Division at 586-469-5236.
A temporary campground may operate for a two (2) week period with the option of a permit extension for an additional two (2) weeks. Temporary campgrounds may not operate at the same location for longer than four (4) weeks without a minimum of thirty (30) days elapsing between each four (4) week operating period.
